What You Can Expect From Invisalign

By : on : 4th January 2022 comments : (Comments Off on What You Can Expect From Invisalign)

Invisalign offers a less visible orthodontic treatment compared to traditional metal braces. Invisalign uses clear, removable aligners to straighten teeth — which means they are barely visible. Also, you can remove them to eat your favorite foods, and you can clean them with a toothbrush.

These comfortable aligners provide an alternative to anyone who has been put off orthodontics due to the prospect of wearing metal braces.

Cleaning Your Aligners

If you qualify for Invisalign, you will need to include them in your daily oral care routine. As they are removable, it makes brushing and flossing your teeth easier compared to having metal braces. You must make sure you clean the aligners each day. It is fine to use your normal toothpaste alongside a soft-bristled toothbrush. You want to use a soft-bristled toothbrush in order not to scratch your aligners.

Wearing Your Aligners Each Day

Your aligners must be worn for the large part of the day. You should expect to wear your aligners between 20 to 22 hours every day during your treatment course. Your dentist will discuss this with you — as the daily wearing is very individual, with some people wearing them longer or shorter times each day. It is important to follow the advice of your dentist for the best results.

Initial Speech Issues

Some people can find adapting to the aligners takes a little while, and in this initial period they can find their speech is affected. However, this will be a temporary issue while you adapt to wearing the aligners, and not one which will affect all Invisalign users. In anticipation of this as a potential issue, it can be a good idea to first start wearing your aligners when you have a quieter few days, such as a weekend when not at work.

You Will Need a Retainer

Wearing a retainer once the Invisalign treatment course is complete is important to help prevent the teeth shifting again. Your aligners can help you get the smile you always hoped for, and a retainer helps maintain this.

If you are considering straightening your teeth, your dentist can advise whether you are a suitable candidate for Invisalign. These clear aligners can help you have a straighter smile again.
